I rate these socks a 4/5. I am leaving a 5 star review to balance out the 3 star review I previously left and can't figure out how to delete.
PROS: Quality Ororo build. Can use my existing Ororo mitten batteries with this product interchangeably.
CONS: Socks will default to medium heat level after a few minutes even if they are put on high. This is true of Ororo jackets as well but you can force them to stay on high by cycling around back to high right after turning them on. You cannot do this with the socks, they will always go down to medium. I suppose this is a safety feature? It is true you would typically be using these in winter boots so in that case this is actually a desired feature, BUT there are certain conditions where I would like to be able to keep them on high such as:
1. Relaxing indoors (no boots to trap heat and so high heat level would be fine)
2. Using footwear with little insulation
THESE SOCKS ARE MORE ABOUT COMFORT THAN ACTUAL COLD PROTECTION:
IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR COLD PROTECTION GET THE TAHOES which warm the top and bottom of the toes. Your toes are the first thing to lose heat on your foot and will be the first place you get frostbite. I am speaking from experience. I was working as a background actor and given costume boots with very little insulation to be worn in -10 C. I was using these heated socks and still got the first stage of frostbite in my toes.
Anyway, they are a quality product but I wish there was more control (being able to lock into high heat mode) and warming just the sole and not the top of the toe has questionable utility in terms of pure protection, though it is quite pleasant for comfort if you are just lounging around indoors.
I would like to see heated socks from Ororo that heat the soles and top of toes. maybe with a two battery option, one on each side of the leg.
